The Rye Schools have appointed Angela Garcia as Principal of Osborn School, effective July 1, 2012. Ms. Garcia currently serves as assistant principal of Wampus Elementary School in the Byram Hills Central School District, a role she has held for the past seven years. Osborn's current principal, Clarita Zeppie, announced her retirement several months ago.
During her tenure as assistant principal, Ms. Garcia created and implemented a character education initiative, co-facilitated data analysis of assessments and coordinated administration and scoring of state assessments, supported faculty and staff in the adoption and implementation of a conceptua math program, participated in staff development initiatives as well as Cultural Proficiency training workshops, and worked with faculty to analyze the Common Core Learning Standards and school-wide curriculum maps. Her responsibilities also included staff supervision and development, and she has evaluated staff members and coordinated and led workshops and meetings for teachers and aides.
Prior to her most recent role at Wampus Elementary, Ms. Garcia was a fourth grade and enrichment teacher at the school. Before that, she taught fourth grade in the Clarkstown Central School District. She began her education career as a teaching assistant in the Chappaqua Central School District in 1997.
Ms. Garcia obtained both her Bachelor of Science Degree and her Master of Science Degree from Pace University. She earned her Advanced Certificate in School Building Leader through the College of New Rochelle. Ms. Garcia also holds the following New York State Permanent Certifications: Special Education (K-12), Elementary (N-6), and School Administrator and Supervisor.
