Moldovan Ambassador to Russia: The withdrawal of the Russian troops from Transnistria might be dangerous

The Republic of Moldova might be affected by the early withdrawal of the Russian troops from the separatist zone of Transnistria.

According to the Moldovan Ambassador to Moscow Andrei Neguta, the peacekeepers? status was criticized by media, and also by the nation after an 18-year-old teenager was shot to death by a Russian peacekeeper deployed at Vadul lui Voda checkpoint.

?Two important things should be emphasized while referring to the part of the fourteenth army: there are peacekeepers that stay at the checkpoints between those two banks of Nistru River and there are also peacekeepers who watch over the ammunition storehouse from Cobasna village. The question is ? what will happen if no more protection on these storehouses will be provided?? Mr. Neguta told a Russian news agency.

He said that the danger for Moldova will increase if such a scenario would happen.

?While lacking a joint viewpoint of sides, the subject has to be discussed and a solution has to be found,? the Ambassador said.

According to him, the ?5+2? negotiation format is the only way to settle the conflict.

?Chisinau comes up with a very large statute for Tiraspol ? a large autonomy respecting the statehood, the independence and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, - but an agreement will be possible only if trustee relations among the sides will be established,? added Mr. Neguta.

He is hopeful that the issue will be faster solved after Moldova elected a new President.
